Da Francesca
Author: Ross
I’m a sucker for a good pie, and even more so for a good coffee. Just over a year ago a friend and I stumbled upon Da Francesca when looking for a venue for our Friday morning coffee stop. We pulled in for a coffee and were sold on the place instantly.
This review is not going to be for a three course meal and wine, but for a simple pie and a coffee. A couple of months back the ownership of the establishment changed, but the quality is still fantastic! I walked in to be greeted by the cheerful smile and handshake of Mike, the owner.
All I really wanted was a coffee when I walked in, so I ordered my stock standard filter coffee. The coffee that this place uses is out of this world, or at least it sends you there. I’m almost sure it’s banned in some smaller countries. The taste and the strength of the coffee is consistently ‘just right’, and best of all, you can buy some for yourself from the shop!
While my morning jolt was brewing on the right hand side of the shop, I took a gander at what was available on the left. There is a smallish refrigerator with a diverse range of sandwich fillings. You simply select a bread from the shop (did I mention it is a fully fledged bakery as well?), and they will make the sandwich of your choice.
There always used to be chicken and mince pies (the limited range was forgiven with the first bite of either), but now I noticed two more types, chicken curry and spinach and feta. I opted for the chicken curry as a take away, making a mental note to try out the spinach and feta in the near future. I got to work and took a bite; it was like a little half moon of curried heaven. Great pastry mixed with tender chicken and now with the most awesome curry flavour.
This one stays nice and high on my list for a quick coffee and a sandwich, you can find Da Francesca’s in Valley Centre, Craighall.

Thank you very much. See you soon
Their pies rock!
Try their fresh Prego rolls on Saturday mornings for a wonderful weekend treat. Their Prego rolls are sugar-free – perfect for diabetics.
Also give their Panini rolls a whirl. You won’t be disappointed.
