Herolds Bay, Western Cape

This was our second visit to this restaurant, the first having been in the summer, in November last year.

This time with the weather being cold and wintery, we chose to sit inside. We were welcomed and led past the cosy fireplace to a table next to the windows, with a view overlooking the ocean.

After visiting Thailand earlier this year, I became quite obsessed with Thai food and Asian-style cooking in general. So I was incredibly excited when Dale of My Jozi invited me to join him for the Thai Food Festival. Thank you Dale!

We just returned from dinner at Panda House, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I have seen the Panda House Chinese Restaurant and Sushi Bar in Rooihuiskraal before, and from the logo and overall look I gathered that it was more of a contemporary/modern Asian restaurant. Tonight we wanted to have sushi somewhere we hadn’t tried before, and came across the Panda House Restaurant on Jean Avenue. I was pleased to find that it is actually a quaint Chinese-styled restaurant and take away, and not the modernised version of “zen” that I had initially thought.

Winter: the time for heaters, scarves, gloves, gluwein, weekend mornings spent in bed with steaming coffee (and one’s laptop), and of course, perhaps best of all, soup! Soups, stews and other foods that warm you up from the inside, making winter more bearable. With this in mind, we set out to Doppio Zero in Southdowns, seeking something to warm our bellies.

A short while ago, we were given the opportunity to head out to Casalinga for the evening. We had heard about Casalinga and had it suggested a few times, so were were quite amped to get down there and taste the fruits of this place! Upon arrival in the early evening the parking lot was full, so I would recommend making a booking beforehand.

A new restaurant recently opened up in the Rooihuiskraal area, and we decided to go try it out. With a name such as “The Cardamom Pod” and modern logo and styling, we guessed that the meals would be authentic indian with a slightly funky vibe. read..

Thanks to Bonita, I had this insane and insatiable craving for sushi today. I asked a colleague for her recommendation on a good sushi spot near our offices, and she recommended Real Sushi; absolutely raving about their fashion sandwiches. So, lunch hour arrived and I donned my helmet and headed towards the parking garage…

Last Saturday, we joined some friends for a breakfast at “Chef and the Fat Man” in Centurion. We were told that it’s R35 for a full buffet breakfast. This sounded too good to be true and, upon arrival, we almost thought it was!

Back to January, back to work, and back to rushing. This was true for our arrival at Montecasino to go and watch Cinderella on ice, which was breathtaking, but that’s another review for another site… In between all the madness, we both realised we were famished, so we headed off to Cobblestones for supper. After being there once before and remembering that we enjoyed it back then, we figured we’d probably enjoy it now. We did not arrive there intending to review it, but the food made us think otherwise!

2 words: Cobblestone Pots… ok wait, 1 more word.. WOW!! Cobblestones has a “Potjie Pots” selection – meals that are served in miniature potjie pots, along with a choice of rice or mash. On a previous visit, I had the prawn curry pot, and was happily satisfied.
