For the past few days, I have had a craving for Chinese food, so after seeing Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant last week at Brooklyn Mall, we decided to check it out for supper.   We walked in to be greeted by friendly staff members, and were guided to a lovely quiet table at the back of the restaurant.   The restaurant has great decor, and will keep your eyes occupied for quite a while as you are transported into a mini China within Brooklyn.

The Godfather Steakhouse

Last weekend we decided to go for a celebratory dinner at The Godfather in Centurion. We had not made a reservation and so, upon arrival were requested to wait in the bar area until a table was ready. The bar is quite cosy, with a relaxed vibe. As a pre-meal appetiser, we purchased a chunk of biltong from the bar (and quite a chunk it was)! This was presented on a cutting board, with a steak knife. The biltong was firm and dry on the outside but red and tender on the inside, providing a tasty chew.

We decided to try one of the restaurants suggested to us, namely The Godfather in Centurion.   We arrived not quite knowing what to expect as well as sans-booking, but the friendly staff at the door added us to a waiting list and pointed us in the direction of the bar next door, where a tab would be opened for us.

Last night we were at home and ready for food, but not ready to make it, so off we went to the trusty Interwebz for some grub. I decided that fish would be a good idea, so we took a look at the Ocean Basket menu.

Que Sera

One of my faaaavourite breakfast run spots, Que Sera is located on the Bronkhorstspruit road towards Bapsfontein. The road is incredibly straight for many kilometres, so don’t expect too many twisties. The scenery is very open and provides a chilled-out atmosphere, and you’ll be sure to see a vast number of bikers out for a Sunday morning run.

I discovered Que Sera a while back when heading out on a breakfast run with some fine riders from Benoni and surrounds.   It’s a little biker spot roughly 10km out of Bapsfontein on the East Rand.   Bonita and I went there this morning for a good Sunday breakfast.

I’m a sucker for a good pie, and even more so for a good coffee. Just over a year ago a friend and I stumbled upon Da Francesca when looking for a venue for our Friday morning coffee stop.   We pulled in for a coffee and were sold on the place instantly.

A’la Turka

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Possibly one of the most unassuming expensive restaurants we’ve been to, A’la Turka appears to be a simple shop as you walk past it in Irene Mall, Centurion (just off the R21).   The store front greets you with Turkish Delights, hubbly bubbly, gold, silver and candy, but you won’t get the full taste until you make the reservation…

After a very long couple of weeks at work, we were given the opportunity to go and eat at Cynthia’s restaurant in Pretoria. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly people and a really cool atmosphere, and were escorted to our reserved table.

I’ve been a regular fan of Cape Town Fish Market for quite some time. As a student I used to always marvel at the conveyor belt sushi bar whenever I walked past the CTFM in Menlyn Park. So, when I could gather up enough student cash to afford it, I went to try out my first taste of sushi..
